Salonika is the Greek name for Thessalonika - now the second largest city in Greece, and the capital of Greek Macedonia. During the rule of the Ottoman empire, Salonica was under Turkish rule, and it was here in 1881 that Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, he founder of modern Turkey was born. The restaurant name pays homage to a man who was, without question, one of the greatest and most visionary leaders this century.
